Sunday 22 May 2016

Sitting on train headed to Kronborg Castle. I saw many runners then found out it was the Copenhagen marathon today.

It appears to be forest or woodland and farmland between the towns on the way to Helsingor.  Everywhere is very green and lots of flowering shrubs and trees.

Walking from the train station along the harbour was an interesting sculpture.

The fish was made entirely of discarded items.

I started out in the Danish Maritime Museum. Many interesting displays. Fascinating to me as our great grandparents came from Denmark to North America by boat in the 1880s.
Then on to Kronborg castle.  It is an incredible castle surrounded by several moats and walls.

The chapel was very ornate with beautiful carvings on the pews.

Part of the tour takes you down into the dungeons of the castle.      It is dark down there and very rough floor.  And her is the sleeping Dane.

LOoking out from the castle across to Sweden. The castle was used to collect money from all the ships that sailed through.

I headed back to COpenhagen to check out the Round Tower.  It was built 1637-42 by Christian IV and has a unique spiral ramp which is the only way to get up to the viewing platform. Then you can look out over Copenhagen with great views.

I finished the day with a Canal boat ride.  Very interesting and informative.  My phone had died by now so all pictures are on my camera which will have to wait until I get home.

Leila arrives tomorrow(23rd) so then I will have company for my adventures.
